Lichfield City chalked off their 11th straight league victory with a 4-2 win over Shifnal Town.
A brace for Jack Edwards in the opening 20 minutes was cancelled out by the visitors at the end of the first half, before Liam Kirton and Callum Rudd struck home to seal three more points for the Trade Tyre Community Stadium side.
Jack Edwards put Lichfield in front after just four minutes with a free kick from 20 yards out. City’s top scorer defied the keeper’s reach with a curled shot that nestled into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal.
Edwards struck again 14 minutes later to double the hosts’ total, with a rasping blow from range that moved too much in the air for George Scott to handle in the Shfinal net.
A free kick just outside the area for the away-side then saw them reduce the deficit on the stroke of half an hour, as Brad Maslen-Jones rifled into the top left-hand corner past James Beeson.
Just before half time, Joe Cuff put Shifnal level with an outrageous lobbed effort from the left side of the pitch that flew over the Lichfield number 1 and bounced into the roof of the net.
Lichfield finally found their third in the 68th minute as Rudd’s range from the sideline came in handy yet again this season. It was Jamie Elkes who flicked on the long throw to Kirton, who fired past Scott on the volley to put his side back in front.
Kirton nearly found his second five minutes later, but blasted his effort high over the cross bar from close range after breaking in behind the visitor’s back line.
But Rudd nodded home from a corner ball to find Lichfield’s fourth in the 82nd minute and restore their two-goal advantage and put the game beyond Shifnal’s reach.
