Lichfield City extended their winning run to five games in all competitions with a remarkable 6-0 win over Northwich Victoria.
Cameron Dunn and Jordan Clement both chalked off braces, while two more strikes for Dan Smith increased his season total to 29 goals.
The hosts went into the game in good spirits after another win at the Trade Tyre Community Stadium in the midweek against a young Walsall F.C. squad. Ivor Green made four changes to the side that came out on top in the Walsall Senior Cup quarter final, as Dan “Wonder” Smith, returned to the starting eleven.
Joe Haines drove forward from left back to earn Lichfield their first chance of the game, but his effort from outside the box was gathered comfortably by Adam Reid in the Northwich goal.
The visitors looked dangerous early on and kept the Lichfield central defensive duo of McMenemy and Elkes on their toes, but it was Smith who struck first blood for Lichfield. The City number 9 collected a rebounding effort from Dunn on the edge of the Northwich area and rifled his shot into the bottom left-hand corner to put his side ahead.
Jack Edwards did well to track back and mop up a Northwich break down the right, before Beeson made a typically heroic save, diving at the feet of Max Timus to protect the Lichfield lead.
Dunn then notched off Lichfield’s second goal with a sublime, looping effort from just inside the area. The City forward capitalised on a long ball up to him from midfield and used the bounce to lob the ball over Reid who had rushed off his line.
Lichfield came close again as Smith’s headed shot from a corner fired high over the cross bar, but neither side could further impact the scoreline before half time.
The hosts burst out of the blocks in the second half, as Smith put Lichfield firmly in the driving seat with another outrageous strike. The league’s top goal scorer combined with Dunn again and struck an absolute thunderbolt into the top left corner from distance.
Lichfield forced an outstanding stop for Reid, diving to his left to deny Liam Kirton before Clement struck a loose ball in the penalty area into the back of the net to put the hosts four goals ahead.
A corner from Haines looped onto the Northwich cross bar before Beeson was forced into action yet again. The Lichfield keeper’s outstretched leg was enough to push the ball wide and maintain the clean sheet.
The hosts fifth came through another incredible goal from Dunn, as he scissors kicked his shot, whilst on the floor after being knocked down inside the box, into Reid’s bottom right corner.
Clement then bagged his second of the game with a low driven strike from 20 yards before the final whistle to confirm the 6-0 win for his side.
Lichfield City will next be in action on Tuesday night (February 6th) as they travel to Wolverhampton Casuals.
