Lichfield City have suffered a 3-1 defeat away at promotion hopefuls Shifnal Town in warm conditions.
It was a poor performance all round from the visitors who had chances to score but struggled to convert these efforts to goals.
Goals from Kieron Buckley, Joe Cuff and Jack Fishman were enough to end Lichfield’s unbeaten run in the league, despite a late consolation from Liam Kirton.
The hosts took the lead after just 15 minutes through a tap in from Buckley and from then on, the visitors struggled to get back into the game.
Kirton had a golden opportunity to draw the sides level but the ball bobbled up and his side footed shot went over the bat.
A fantastic free-kick from Joe Haines seemingly had no takers as the ball sailed harmlessly past the post.
It proved to be similar problems for the visitors as they were punished for their failures to take their chances and fell two goals behind after Jamie Elkes was caught in possession.
The hosts sprung on them and nicked in. It was another cutback this time for Cuff who was there to tap into the empty net.
The visitors, despite creating ample chances to half the deficit just couldn’t get on the scoresheet much to Ivor Green’s frustration.
The game was soon put beyond doubt through a poorly defended corner.
The delivery, from the left, was put right into the path of James Beeson but there was Jack Fishman who rose highest to head into the roof of the net.
Dan Lomas, Luke Childs, Cameron Dunn and Jordan Clement certainly made an impact when they came off the bench but it wasn’t enough.
Kirton scored a consolation tap in late on but it wasn’t enough for the visitors to stage an unlikely comeback.
Lichfield will be hoping to respond in big fashion when they take on Atherstone Town in what will be a huge away day for the club.
